Session 8: Shadowy Bahamas

Mariana utilized her lockpicking and thief skills to allow us into the NE passage. After successfully disarming the trap we were warned of she directed us not to step on a stone pressure plate. The first room was full of ancient, adorned urns filled with quicksilver, rare plant juices and other alchemical preparations.

Upon opening a heavily guarded door to the south, we were surprised by a clay and bronze idol, dressed as a hunter.

Bart and I immediately took turns blasting the little bastard, while it screamed in a high pitch whine, as an urn burst against the wall covering us in mercury. As we cleared our eyes we saw the little man fall down thanks to a pistol shot from our Cap’n and we quickly retrieved his spear, an earth spear (d8+1 dmg).

Suddenly 4 scorpions entered from the west and had us on our heels, the battle was quick as we gave them all we had, save Adam Smith who broke a series of spears and urns while prat-falling around the chamber.

Finally using the voice, the final scorpion was held by our Cap’n who mercifully drove a knife into the creature’s brain.

The final chamber lay to the west containing some broken down building materials and ornate doors to the south with a complicated lock, which we bypassed through brute strength, revealing 4 bars of gold (1′ x1′ x 5′) each too heavy to carry.

After a long rest we returned to the ritual chamber where my distrust of Kenneth was confirmed. Mariana was able to secure our release from the depths and we left Kenneth and his remaining scorpions to themselves. After travelling west on the ridgeline we spotted smoke coming from the jungle and a large bleached skeleton to the north.

We investigated the smoke and found a lone traveler, Motten Mick, a master gunner (formerly under VanHouten’s command) requesting passage off the island.

He wove his tale of objecting to VanHouten’s work for the Koslevs and was abandoned on this island where he swore revenge on his former captain.

Having also told us of a shipwreck to the SE we travelled there and recovered an obsidian disk (2″ in diameter) from a chest – which Mariana promptly destroyed.

We sailed back to Hollow Ground and discovered Lucinda Zachary has been kidnapped. We provided Kimona with the scorpion poison but she was deeply distressed.

Bart and I recovered our dried meat from the smokehouse before heading to interrogate the doctor who reveals that Lucinda may be held at Choke Hold Grotto.

Cue the weaponsmith montage (throwing knives! Grenades! Smoke bombs!). Properly geared we set sail for the grotto while the Cap’n got ash-blotto.

We boarded our dinghy and rowed to shore amongst the slimy weeds where we discovered and saved a beached whale.
Some discarded driftwood in the area led Bart to scream “Pinocchio” for some reason and while this left the rest of the crew puzzled our good deed seemed to offset the negative vibes we had felt upon entering that place.
